Sgt. 1st Class William D. Slaght

SFC William D. Slaght was born and raised in Glen Cove, N.Y., where he graduated Glen Cove High School in 1991 and joined the U.S. Army in April 2001. He completed basic combat training at Fort Jackson, S.C. and advanced individual training (AIT) at Fort Lee, Va. as an Automated Logistics Specialist.
Slaght’s duty assignments include: Charlie Battery, 2nd Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery, Fort Bliss, Texas; 108th Air Defense Brigade, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; 3rd Brigade, 25th Aviation Battalion, Fort Bliss, Texas; 1st Armored Division, 1st Battalion, 21st Armored Division; and Mike Company, 244th Quartermaster Battalion, Fort Lee, Va., where he now serves as an AIT Platoon Sergeant.
His awards and decorations include an Army Commendation Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (four oak leaf clusters), Iraqi Campaign Medal, Iraqi Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Service Medal, Drivers Badge, Navy Presidential Unit Citation and the Meritorious Unit Citation.
Slaght’s military and civilian education includes the senior leaders course, the advanced leaders course and the warrior leaders course. He attended Cortland State College in New York, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education with a concentration in coaching.
His short-term goal is to complete his master’s degree in business administration and to attain his personal trainer certification. His long-term goal is to retire from the Army earning the rank of command sergeant major.
Slaght has two children.
